Wild Hailstorm wipes out crops 2022

Due to a wild hailstorm that passed over our land on the August long weekend, many of our crops were damaged. Therefore many of our products are out of stock "until next year". Always a farmer's motto and looking forward to seeding and growing food for families in the spring of 2023!

TEAM: Turning an Old House into a Home Again

TEAM: Turning an Old House into a Home Again

How do you survive another Covid summer with various lockdown restrictions?

Are you finding HOPE in opening up and getting back to normal in your province or state?

This month, our wellness seeker story [https://getoiling.com/NewLifeStyle/blog][0] is about surviving summer, but especially the importance of families that work together as a team.

One thing our family has learned through the past year is just how important is TEAM and what it means to us:

Together Everyone Achieves More

We’ve discovered that together with regular monthly family meetings, a weekly day of rest, and daily check-ins at family meal times has given us an edge not only in combatting the various social Covid restrictions but actually flourishing in doing what we love while enjoying the process: growing food for families, sharing wellness and building a business, and even in starting two new major building projects.

We have a project that's been a dream of ours for 20 years. Our family is attempting to turn this old house that's been sitting in our yard empty for 50 years into a home again here on our family farm near Denzil, Saskatchewan.

Over a 100 years old and built in Salvador by Percy Danbrook

Officially called a vegetable processing facility for agricultural purposes... just in case it doesn’t survive the move onto a new basement foundation this summer.

Eventually, though, a home for one of our 11 kids and their family, respite from rent, for a few years? At least a Covid isolation home for our college kids that go back and forth to the USA?
Or maybe even a Vacation Farm home for anyone that wants to live life on a traditional farm for a weekend of fixing fence, gathering eggs, milking a cow, or just simple rejuvenation on a family farm.

Definitely, though, our retirement home. David, third generation farmer on this 110 year old farm, was born on this farm and he plans on dying here. HOPING one of our 11 kids will want to take over the farm and then our retirement plan is secure.

Together everyone achieves more on this family farm and in life in general because team work is necessary to have a flourishing community.

We accompany one another so that no one gets stuck but we don’t read minds. So if you need some accompaniment this month or even if you like to swing a hammer with a community of people working together, then reach out to us this month! We will find a place for you on this TEAM and together we will not only survive but flourish this summer!

Check back here often at newlifeorganicfoods.ca for updated blog information on the progress of our old house renovation this summer 2021! We just poured concrete this week for our footings so it's getting real around here. We start building walls next week!

We won’t be teaching any classes this month but reply to this email and you'll receive 6...not 5 MUST- HAVE Essentials for Camping and Surviving Summer!
Since farming is like permanent camping without as much beer and relaxation, our family is well practiced in using these essential wellness oils to increase our team’s wellness especially in our busy season called summer!

Do you have a favourite childhood memory? Ever since I was a small child in the sandbox, I’ve always wanted to farm. When my sandbox became too small for my growing farm, I moved my scaled down tractors out to the garden. As I grew older it was very natural to follow my father around the farm, learning, helping and working on our family farm just like our children have also done.

Over the years this desire to farm grew into certifying our land as organic and we started growing food and sharing that food with families in western Canada. In my quest to make our food even healthier and more nutrient dense, I’ve spent the past several years researching soil health and soil microbiology.
The microbial life in soil is where it’s at for healthy food…and I love sharing all that I’ve learned in workshops or one on one with other farmers. Check out more info on our farm/photos: www.newlifeorganicfoods.com

The microbial life in the soil is the same as the microbial life in our gut. You can eat all the nutrient-dense food you want but if your body can’t digest and absorb it then it’s a waste of “fertiilzer” so to speak on the land. The proper pH in the soil, the proper bacteria in the soil and the proper amount of fungi… create a balanced environment in the soil and keep the plants growing healthy

“As soon as you add the junk like pesticides and ammonia fertilizers you destroy the microbial life of the soil and you grow junk food”

We are what we eat after all…. so I encourage you to know where your food comes from and how it’s grown. Our mission is to connect families to the land through the nourishing food we grow, as well as other simple beautiful things in life.

It’s the same for other things we bring into our home… not just our food, but our cleaners, fragrances, etc. As the soil on our farm needs the farmer to reduce toxins to thrive so do our homes/families need us to be the gatekeepers of our home and reduce the toxins allowed to enter.

Our family started reclaiming our wellness with Young Living essential oils 17 years ago. Three years ago we decided to share wellness and build a team in order to subsidize income on our farm with growing food for families. We’ve been very thankful we made this decision when a year ago I lost my oilfield job.

The reason the essential oils work at helping heal our body, prevent “dis-ease” in our body, and enable our body to absorb nutrients is that they are “life blood” or healing properties of each plant. Make sure your essential oils are distilled from the plant, that has been grown in soil with good microbial life, harvested at the right time and distilled in a scientifically ethical process. We are super thankful that we can respect a company like Young Living with their Seed to Seal guarantee.

“Did you know there are six key areas to help reclaim our wellness with a healthy body?
Guess what!! They are practically the same for healthy soil!”

Yes.. I’ve even helped teach an Oola Workshop…more on that to come in May!

Farmer's Best Friend - Rescued Dogs

What would a farm be without a farm dog?

Eleven years ago our family rescued our farm dog, Sadie, from a house that needed to thin out their pack of 7 dogs. She was at the bottom of the pack, over-submissive, and needed a family to call her own. She immediately took to our family. Especially with our daughter, Janelle, who convinced us to let Sadie sleep inside at night.

Sadie quickly became our best farm dog ever. You can tell Sadie to go put the chickens away, and she will gently lead them back to the coop. Sadie naturally herds cattle and is gentle enough to let the cats sleep next to her; even share her dog house. She puts on her mean face when Saskpower drives into the yard and immediately attacks anyone that is threatening a family member physically. We know this not because we've actually been threatened but as we've tested her response in a mock-up.

These would all make great videos that we will need to share this summer as Sadie will be 12, and Janelle, her favorite farmer, will be getting married. We realize it’s only a matter of time before Sadie will pass on. Until then though she’s still healthy and strong and able to hopefully help us train what will hopefully be our next BEST farm dog….

… In comes 18 month old Boy our new rescued dog. We call him Buddy and like Sadie, he just needed a new family and farm to call home. Buddy comes from Northern Saskatchewan where he was going to be culled (shot) as they feel there are too many dogs. He was rescued by a Saskatoon family and from there we soon discovered he needed a home.

Buddy is a beautiful cross between Great Pyrenees and Golden Lab and we can understand why he was saved from that fatal day. Buddy's fate will forever be changed!! So far he loves our farm... a little too much, as he likes to chase and bark at the livestock. However, we soon hope that after a visit to the vet and one-on-one daily training, he will soon be our farmer's new best friend! We will keep you posted soon with some videos on our New Life Organic Foods social media accounts.

Enjoy!

Irish slang - Check out Dewey... this is his GREEN Day

Irish slang - Check out Dewey... this is his GREEN Day

Luck o' the Irish!

Dewey is dancing his "jig" again and is tired and "knackered" of these "thick dosser" Covid rules and wants to "bunk off" from this "gaff"

Dewey and his "boyo" friends is a "chancer" and travel planes (airports), trains, and automobiles and even golf courses, but Dewey is tired of being a "cuchie" and mostly wants to "crack on" and bring some refreshing wellness to other "gaffs".

There's alot of "free gaffs" out there and he wants to help! Dewey is not "codding ya"... he's seriously "craic" Let us know if you want to take a "gander" with Dewey's friendship! 😉

We're "delira and excira" to get sharing Dewey and his friends again! Such a "gas"!!

Do you know some Irish slang too? 🤣

Spring Babies coming soon! Starting with Grandbaby #13...

Spring babies are coming soon on the Witzaney Family Farm!

Starting with our oldest baby, of eleven, ( pictured here on her wedding day); who ANY Day and possibly in the next 24 hours is readying to give birth to our 13th grandbaby!

On our 110 year old family farm we love babies! They remind us of New Life and that's probably why we named our business and created a logo of a tiny baby plant.

Choosing to farm and grow food for families is also in actuality a new life for David who has worked in the oil patch for the last 30 years, until the recent Covid lockdowns and oil price tank.

We decided to "think positively" about his job change and see this time as an opportunity (#freedom50) to focus on our faith, family and farm with growing food for families.

Babies are an important part of this upcoming season and as we ready our family and our farm for the next batch of babies this spring, we are thinking of the families that choose to sit down at their table this day to eat the food that we grow.

We've got exciting plans this summer and we hope that you will follow along here as we get better at blogging it all. Or better yet plan a visit to our farm this summer to see what it's all about!

Connection to the family farm, the land and eventually the food that is grown is a passion of our family.

We hope you will enjoy our What's New section on this website as we move forward with hope for Spring 2021.
